Photograph Smile(1998) - Julian Lennon
During the seven years that elapsed between 'Help Yourself' and 'Photograph Smile', Julian battled his way out of an unsatisfactory recording contract, travelled extensively in Europe, took up painting and developed a serious interest in cooking. By the time Julian was ready to return to his music career he had a very clear idea of what he wanted to do and how he wanted to go about it. By now Julian was impervious to the inevitable, and hitherto tiresome comparisons with his dad. Indeed, with the storming rocker 'I Don't Wanna Know' Julian simultaneously pays tribute to, and sends up the Beatles. But we are reminded of the Beatles at their best. By forming his own label, Music From Another Room, Julian no longer had to suffer the constraints of a recording contract and was free to do as he pleased. Reconciled with the past Julian settled down to compose some damned good songs. 'Photograph Smile' received wide critical acclaim - Julian, finally, stands alone as an accomplished artist in his own right. Reviews
