Whereas the Yellow Submarine album had
come across as more of a soundtrack, this soundtrack to Magical Mystery
Tour feels much more like an album. Each song stands alone and most
could have been hit singles. The movie was largely Paul's idea and
he was the driving force that pushed it through to completion. It
was experimental and got mixed reviews at the time, although it's
now generally considered to be a ground-breaking art-movie. Paul contributed
the ever-popular 'Penny Lane' and the movie is the only record of
John performing his composition 'I Am the Walrus.'
