Let It Be is one of the most controversial
Beatle records. Although the last album to be released, it was not
the final album from the Beatles. Abbey Road was recorded after Let
It Be. The album received a fair amount of negative criticism and
allowing for the fact that expectation levels of a new Beatles' album
were unusually high, it's fair to say that there's evidence of carelessness
in the recording. Tensions within the group that would soon lead to
their breakup were much in evidence. The Beatles were in a negative
frame of mind and finding it increasingly difficult to collaborate.
As well as an occasional track that could be described as a pedestrian
performance, the album also harbours real gems such as 'Across The
Universe,' 'Long And Winding Road'and 'Get Back.'It's a measure of
the band that even whilst in considerable conflict, they produced
an album that remains highly regarded by die-hard Beatle fans and
plain old lovers of rock music.
