Double Fantasy was the last album John
Lennon released during his lifetime. For the preceding five years
John had 'dropped-out', spending much of his time in his New York
apartment. During that time John had mellowed into middle age - 'Watching
the Wheels', 'Beautiful Boy', 'Woman' - and was ready to embark on
a new period of creativity. Some people argue that production on the
album is slick in the fashion of that time, others consider it to
be the finest work of John's solo career. John's songs show a high
and consistent level of craftsmanship that's not evident on all of
his previous offerings. And Yoko's contribution, though heavily criticised,
found greater acceptance than anything she had previously attempted.
