In the white heat of Beatlemania, the pressure to deliver
new albums was immense. 'Beatles for Sale' was rushed to catch the
1964 Christmas market. Constant touring and promotion left insufficient
time for writing and it's fair to say that not all of the covers were
chosen with great care. John felt the Beatle bandwagon running away
and he was no longer in control. His state of mind can be measured
by his opening trilogy of 'No Reply,' 'I'm a Loser,' and 'Baby's in
Black.'
