John Lennon's black velvet cape

It was widely assumed that the album cover showed the Beatles signalling Help! in semaphore.

Although the photographer asked the Beatles to strike a semaphore pose no one knew the semaphore code and so the poses were struck at random. Consequently the semaphore interpretation is meaningless, N-U-J and the signal for Annul.
