Julian bought the Apple mascot at auction in September 1996. It had been fitted to John Lennon's Austin Maxi. While visiting relatives in Scotland in July 1969 John ran the car into a ditch. Julian suffered shock. John, Yoko and Kyoto needed stitches but were not seriously injured. John arranged for the car to be crushed into a cube and mounted on a pedestal in the garden of his house in Ascot, Berkshire, as a reminder of how lucky they all were to be alive.
