Relationship: Paternal Grandmother of
John Lennon
Died: 30 January 1949
Mary Maguire was born in Liverpool. Jack
Lennon hired her as housekeeper after his first wife died. They
married and had eight children, six of whom survived. The two babies
who died were baptised Roman Catholic as Jack was a Catholic, but
the other six children were christened Protestants.
When Jack died in 1921 Polly, because of her poor financial position,
was forced to put two of the children, Alfred,
John's father, and Edith in the Bluecoat Orphanage.
Polly was illiterate but said to be very witty and reputed to be
a psychic.
She died on 30 January 1949.
