Julia is Julia Lennon and John
Dykin's eldest daughter. From the age of two the family lived
on the Springwood Estate in Blomfield Road. When John restored contact
with his mother he began to visit the family regularly. Whenever
John stayed, which was often, Julia would share her double bed with
Jackie to free Jackie's room for
John.
Julia was 10 when she first saw John perform. His mother and his
younger half-sister, Jackie, all came to watch the Quarry Men play
at a street party in Rosebury Street on 22 June 1957.
The next year when Julia was 11, her mother was killed by a car,
but the truth was hidden from the girls for several weeks. Their
Aunt Mater looked after them
first at her home in Scotland before they came to live permanently
with their Aunt Harrie, supported
by their father.
In 1965, when she was 18, Julia met Allen Baird. They married in
1968 and after the birth of their first child settled in Liverpool,
then in Cheshire. Julia became a teacher. Allen and Julia went on
to have three children together. Now their eldest son is a Systems
Analyst, their daughter is in business marketing and their youngest
son is studying music in London.
When John Lennon first moved to America Julia and he lost touch,
but in 1974 a phone call out of the blue re-established contact
and from then on John telephoned on a regular basis. He would often
want to talk about their mother and the rest of his Liverpool family.
He asked Julia to send him family pictures, especially photographs
of their mother.
